Ashlynne Krueger

Ashlynne Krueger (born 1988) is a main character in Manchester Chronicles. Of British and German descent, Ashlynne works as a clerk at the Oddities & Curiosities shop. Ashlynne is also a member of the Wolfbann Society, making her very skilled at hypnosis.

Biography[]

The Fairy Awakens

Ashlynne was born in Dusseldorf, Germany, the daughter of a German businessman and a British socialite that was a branch member of the Manchester Moncrieff family. A dual citizen of both Germany and the UK, Ashlynne frequently traveled between the two countries. Growing up near parks in both countries, Ashlynne grew to be obsessed with them, soon developing fantasies of being a fairy. Even when she became a teenager Ashlynne continued to believe fairies were real, much to the chagrin of her family. Ashlynne's many cousins tend to think poorly of her for the side projects she has continued, even into her adult life. It was this fascination with the fantastic that made Astrid Lorenz think Ashlynne was an ideal recruit for the Wolfbann Society.

After being mentored in private by Astrid for a few years Ashlynne moved to Schattenjäger, where she would spend over a year studying advanced hypnosis. Salena Saynor was a fellow student at Schloss Ritter, her and Ashlynne not getting along due to their different approaches to the lessons. During her studies Ashlynne also dated fellow student Tarak Spears, though they broke up once he left for New York. Ultimately in May of 2008 Ashlynne formally moved to Manchester, deciding to settle there rather than in Germany. Bridget O'Dwyer hired Ashlynne to work at Oddities & Curiosities, which she would continue to do even after Bridget disappeared. Lucia Krueger, Ashlynne's older sister, would become her apprentice, Ashlynne's quickly teaching her what she knew.

Falling in Love

Ashlynne first met Heather Prescott when she came to Oddities, picking up a book for a friend. Struck by the graphic designer, Ashlynne was pleased to see her show up at the Friends in Need Ball days later. When Eugenia Harrington was rude to Heather, Ashlynne secretly hypnotized Eugenia into having her come on to Louisa Dickens, in spite of her expressed homophobia. During the Crown Breakers attack Ashlynne was frozen by a Type-7 dart. Following her recovery, Ashlynne made her move on Heather, gently letting her down with the fact that her cousin Sandra Moncrieff was not gay while letting slip that she herself was. The two quickly hooked up, leaving the ball together. Days later Ashlynne went to visit Salena at the University of Knightsbridge but ended up hypnotized by her presumed friend, helping her pick out a helot while also befriending Eleanor Cunningham. A week after that development Ashlynne would learn about Type-7 from Heather, suspecting she was using it for fun (not aware she was in fact using her ability to stop time), and, through hypnosis, help Michelle Burgess explore her sexuality.

When Madeline Faye tried to use a Pipe Organ to hypnotize members of Platinum Pathways, Ashlynne was called in to deal with her by Eleanor. Under hypnosis, Madeline revealed the entire scheme, prompting Ashlynne to help Eleanor, Natalie Townsend and Salena sabotage the operation. Wanting to punish Madeline, Ashlynne took her home, where she'd also been working on ensuring that Colby Northcott wouldn't try to shutter Oddities & Curiosities. Madeline soon became Ashlynne's new maid.

A few weeks after the incident with Madeline Ashlynne attended the birthday party of Helena Atkinson, Heather's best friend. Ashlynne met Rosalind Boatwright for the first time and was less than impressed, Heather then revealing she was aware Ashlynne could hypnotize people when she asked her to help correct Rosalind's personality. Ashlynne did so, but while she was gone Aurora Perrot froze Heather and Helena as a prank. Ashlynne helped convince Verity Knight not to treat the situation like a police officer, then helping to get payback on Aurora and her friends. After Aurora was dealt with Ashlynne tried to speak with Kieran Hawthorne, Heather's mysterious friend, but during their conversation the pair were frozen by Karen Barker and posed to be kissing. Ashlynne reasoned with Heather after she learned what happened, then using her talents to help figure out Karen was the culprit.

Bittersweet Secrets

After coming home from the party, Ashlynne was shocked when Heather revealed to her that magic was real, showing her the frozen forms of Ebo and Karen. The next day Ashlynne would be further rocked when her cousins Elizabeth Moncrieff and later Sandra Moncrieff confirmed their own connections to the subject. Between those discoveries and learning about the Type-7 Chip from Marianne Atkinson and Priscilla Trafford, Ashlynne elected to start studying magic herself, taking advantage of the stock Oddities & Curiosities had. In the meantime Ashlynne encountered Natalie once again, who realized that Ashlynne had previously hypnotized her for using Type-7 on her. Ashlynne ended up cementing their relationship, establishing triggers for her while also giving her some degree of freedom from earlier plants.

Despite the strength of her connection with Heather, Ashlynne doubted they could maintain things forever. Despite misgivings, Ashlynne broke up with Heather at the FashionZeit Christmas party. The same night Ashlynne discovered Lucia had been hired by Petra Turner to mess with the company and encouraged her sister to cease the contract. Ashlynne's bruised heart would be soothed by the new sexually beneficial side of her friendship with Prissy, as well as an extended manipulation of Yakira Feldt and Atalia Bogen.

Feeling empty after ending things with Heather, Ashlynne attempted to seduce Kieran Hawthorne but was rebuffed. Turning her attentions elsewhere, Ashlynne was able to befriend Kate Feng while at United Queendom, as well as encounter Ilona Sirmais. Ashlynne would recruit Kate, along with bullies Devika Ahmad and Kerry Thompkins, to work as professional mannequins at Oddities & Curiosities. While Ilona wouldn't show interest in Ashlynne, Georgina MacKenzie, a regular customer, would.
